I love it how some people in America think Korea is copying them. Like honestly, people get plastic surgery to help improve their self-esteem not to look like other races.

For their skin, I'm not sure if this is exactly how it is for Korean culture and history, but I know that that's the case for Japan. I wouldn't be surprised if it were the same story. In Japan centuries ago, there were different class systems. Toward the bottom were the farmers and at the top were the royalty and nobility. Farmers spent their time outdoors, obviously, and as a result became very tan. Royalty, on the other hand, spent most of their time indoors in castles, thus didn't tan. As such, lighter skin became associated with a higher status and thus beauty. I think in many Asian countries, this idea of beauty still pervades today even though classes are very different in modern society.
