I did the low salt diet. Ended up in the hospital during a century bike ride. Hyponatremia. Apparently I almost died. My Otolaryngologist who specializes in this disease says that the low salt diet doesn't seem to do much for most his patients.

So if you're a busy doctor who makes you food for you? I've just stopped eating, basically. Too busy to cook, so I've been doing 6 ensure a day and taking Actigall.

Hi Edmung! I hope you are feeling better! I have done a hearing test and my GP thinks I also have Meniere's disease because I have a right ear endolymphatic hydrops. Just wondering, is it usually the right ear that is clog or this can varies? The other symptoms that I am having is hearing loss, tinnitus and confusion….. I don't know why but this problem is affecting my quality of sleep, how can you improve the quality of sleep? Someone told me that this is a neurootology area as not all ENTs deal with this disease. Can a neurologist help?

I have Meniere's Disease was diagnosed with it in 2003. Currently in therapy now to help me cope with my symptoms. I know am losing a little of my hearing in my left ear. Am having the rotary chair test this month. My caloric test showed bilateral weakness on twice 3 years apart. Am on allergies shots, which help.

Thank you everyone for the support. Have had this Menier's since 2010 now. Multiple flares with continued bilateral hearing loss till about 2012. Then it settled with chronic 35% loss on Left and 25/30% on Right. Minimal to little attacks and minimal nausea intermittently.

Unfortunately I perhaps became lax which my diet (caffeine, fatty foods, and sugar) but did lose 12 pounds and was exercising great and sleeping well. I stopped my monthly acupuncture sessions. Had increased work stress, moved entire house, gutted 1 floor of the house and was living through the dusty remodel.

Of course, my Menier's flared again with a vengeance. I have thrown EVERYThING at it again – including the Meniet and Tympanostomy and weekly acupuncture. I did have to go back to the original acupuncturist (now 55 miles and 90 minutes away) because the other local ones were not as effective. Slowly improving now after 5 weeks. At least I can stand and walk and drive unlike 4 weeks ago.

Unfortunately now 70 to 80% deaf in right ear with 40% in left.

Dr Ed I hope you are feeling better.  My situation has been getting better.  I was incorrectly diagnosed with Menieres but it is evident now that I had "Sudden Loss of Hearing Syndrome" which was accompanied by complete deafness in my right ear, and severe vertigo and ringing.  (I wasn't able to move for 48 hours, or drive for 6 weeks).  During this past year since it happened, the ringing has been less (although still constant) and the vertigo symptoms have subsided (as long as I don't get too tired or stressed out or shake my head around).  Some of the things that I have done that have helped are Massage Therapy (I grind my teeth at night so that didn't help my TMJ joint and may have been a contributing factor), Chiro (C0, C1, C2 were really out of alignment when this happened), Vestibular Therapy (at a Physio clinic), Acupuncture, and changing my diet so that there is no salt, no MSG, no Aspartame, and lots of healthy veggies and fruit.  I did a lot of research and discovered Cold Laser.  I have had about 12 treatments, and it really seems to help reduce the ringing and it has helped the muscles in my neck and shoulder that have been solid since the attack last year, finally relax and loosen up. (It is possible that these muscles may have been blocking blood flow to the ear area and by having them relax, the blood flow returns, therefore allowing the ear area to heal better). I also think the Cold Laser has improved my hearing capability – things are now not so distorted sounding. I will be able to confirm this officially at the end of May when I go for another hearing test.  Cold Laser helps cells heal from the inside out, and it is gentle and relaxing – and about the same price point as a massage treatment, and certainly worth investigating as an option. I checked out many different websites and read many clinic studies about whether Cold Laser helps.  Here is one website – I would be interested to know if others have tried Cold Laser and if it has helped them.    http://www.tinnitool.com/en/klinische_studien/  There are lots of websites and research that has been happening around the world, that discuss Cold Laser. Blessings to you Dr Ed!  Keep up the great focus finding the solutions that help your body heal.  🙂   Thank you for all of the helpful information you have provided.  I hope some of this information that I have shared helps you and others. ~ Janet :-)

Thanks, Ed. I've watched this one, and will get to the others soon.
I'm awake now while my boyfriend is mercifully asleep after 2.5 hours of what sounded like utter agony. He only finally got diagnosed on Tuesday, and has been resisting the idea of a low salt diet. After a few hours on the net, I'm sold. Food and symptom diary plus low salt diet starting ASAP! (I think it was a high salt package food I made that set this attack off).

Also that mirror behind you is freaky.

I know I'm repeating what others have written, but I would also like to thank you for these videos. Your videos are very informative and helpful, and they give me hope.

Dear Ed, Thanks for the great videos. My mother has the MD. Have you tried either MeniQ or Meniett Device? She has bilateral MD. She lost hearing completely on one ear and now the other one is deteriorating

Hi Ed, thanks for your videos. I was diagnosed with MD in 1997. It was sort of under control until last year when I had severe hearing loss and an onset of severe tinnitus. Thankfully i don't really have severe vertigo. I just want to share that avoiding drinking cold water works wonders for me. Warm or slightly hot water literally soothes the ear. cold water causes almost immediate fullness and increased tinnitus.

@namik210 Ginko can not hurt and there are studies out there which have shown benefit. However, there are even more studies (about 3 positive to 7 neutral) which show no benefit. Ginko maybe beneficial in general for mental improvement. Will not hurt. I personally did try Ginko for about 3 months, but it was too hard to tell if it really made a difference. I do find one cup or fresh brewed Green Tea daily more helpful.
