In the 1970s I served on the board and was president of the Harland E Moore Heart Research Foundation in Campaign, Ill . Fred Kummerow was the Director. Much of Fred's findings did not match with the preconceived notions of the American heart association and the NIH. Research Grants would be approved but not funded since his research did not support their notions.10

Dr. Kummerow was my doctoral thesis advisor at the University of Illinois. It has been my privilege and pleasure to remain in touch with him. I have taught a lifelong learning institute course based on his book about cholesterol and trans fats/whether they have a role in coronary heart disease. He is an inspiration!
