Your body's preferred source of fuel is carbohydrates. Sugar is only a problem on a high fat diet. Lots of fat blocks insulin production. Lot of pro athletes take insulin so they can consume enough carbohydrates and still eat a high protein/fat diet to get big. Every cell in your body requires glucose. Your brain requires glucose to function. Processed sugar is not the greatest because its not a whole food. processed plain sugar lacks fiber vitamins minerals and water

Do not drink gatorade or powerade at all!! They are full of refined sugars and artificial flavours that are terrible for you! Just drink water during and after games. If you want a natural substitute for gatorade drink coconut water, it is all natural and actually does all the things powerade and gatorade claim to do but much more effectively!! You can find them at your local health food store and even some grocery stores.

Raw fruits contain sugars that are fantastic for you. They nourish you, clean the body, and provide you with the best energy. In moderation, raw cane sugars are okay, but not good. However, the more processed the sugars (normal cane, beet, corn, etc.) the less the nutritional value and the higher the danger.

Gatorade is made with high fructose corn syrup — a nutritionless filler. There are many good commercial "during" drinks that don't contain it. I make a fantastic "during" drink with coconut milk, a low-sodium green vegetable juice, tea, plus a greens powder, glutamic acid, creatine, TMG crystals, liquid calcium-magnesium, a liquid vitamin, and Cytomax. Great for both basketball and weight training.

Dig it! Nuts are good for you. They make a terrific source of protein after a workout. There are also very good, clean nut butters out there. Almond, cashew, sesame — as well as peanut. Just get them without sugar and hydrogenated oils.
